Remember that drill bits can become hot during use, so give them a chance to cool down before swapping drill bits. It is highly recommended that you turn the drill off when changing the drill bits.
It is very important that you use the correct drill bits for the job. For example you would not use a toaster to cook your roast dinner! If you’re drilling into a solid brick wall you need to use a masonry drill, if it’s timber you are drilling into then you need to use a wood bit and if its metal you are drilling into then a high-speed steel bit if the drill bit for you. It is essential that you always use the right tool for the job.
Drilling into different materials
Drilling into tiles is a tricky job, it’s recommended that you place a piece of masking tape on the area of the tile you want to drill a hole in. This will help to stop the drill wandering. You will also need to use a specialist tile drill bit for this job.
When drilling into plasterboard you need to go along the wall tapping it, where the wall does not sound hollow that will be where the wooden joist is, you need to aim into this part of the plasterboard only and not into the hollow wall.
If you are using a drill with a cord you must ensure that it is a purpose made extension cord if you need more length. Be careful never to pick up the drill by its flex and this can cause damage over time.
